Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man from North Carolina has been charged in connection with the death of a Springfield man in a parking lot incident that occurred in 2023.

Court documents reveal that 56-year-old Melvin Battle is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and second-degree involuntary manslaughter.

The tragic incident took place on September 29, 2023, at the Walmart Supercenter located on Kansas Expressway near I-44. A pedestrian, later identified as 51-year-old Todd Tennison, was struck by a semi-truck in the parking lot.

A witness reported following the semi-truck to the intersection of W. Kearney Street and informing Battle, the driver, that the vehicle had hit something while turning out of the parking lot.

Despite being informed of the incident, Battle initially denied any involvement and claimed he was unaware of the collision. Authorities were unable to locate the semi-truck at the time.

After an extensive cross-state investigation, it was determined that Battle was indeed the driver of the semi-truck involved in the fatal accident. He was subsequently arrested by U.S. Marshalls.

During his court appearance, Battle entered a not-guilty plea and is currently being held at Greene County Jail on a bond set at $15,000.
