Accident – Death – Obituary News : Delaware State Police have apprehended David Gillespie, a 59-year-old resident of Milford, Delaware, on charges of felony DUI for the sixth time. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2024.
Reports indicate that a trooper responded to a distress call regarding a Jeep Liberty that had collided with a mailbox and a utility pole on Cedar Creek Road near Heritage Road in Lincoln. Prior to the trooper’s arrival, witnesses informed him that the driver of the Jeep had fled the scene. Upon reaching the location, the trooper found David Gillespie walking along Cedar Creek Road. Gillespie displayed signs of impairment, leading the trooper to conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Subsequently, Gillespie was arrested for driving under the influence. A computer check revealed that Gillespie had a history of five previous DUI-related convictions. Fortunately, Gillespie did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
Following the arrest, Gillespie was taken to Troop 7 for processing. He was charged with a range of offences, including 6th Offense DUI (Felony), Breach of Conditions of Bond (Felony), Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Driving While Suspended or Revoked, and Multiple Traffic Offences. Gillespie was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and remanded to Sussex Correctional Institution upon posting a $12,402 cash bond.
