A Marion man has been arrested on homicide charges after a gruesome incident where he reportedly stabbed and attempted to light a 28-year-old man on fire. The suspect, Lamar Frankie Carter Jr., now faces multiple felony charges including homicide, arson, abuse of a corpse, and burglary.
According to a news release from the Marion Police Department, the incident unfolded at an apartment complex in Marion. On Sunday, officers responded to a report of blood on the outside of a window to one of the apartments. Upon arrival, they discovered additional drops of blood in a courtyard leading them to the apartment where they found the body of 28-year-old Jeffrey Hicks on the kitchen floor.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Hicks had been stabbed multiple times and the suspect had tried to set him on fire. Video surveillance from inside the apartment complex captured a man, later identified as Carter, leaving Hicks’ apartment. Carter was located and brought in for questioning, leading to his arrest and charges in connection to the incident.
