A man was taken into custody on Sunday after attempting to flee from a traffic stop and initiating a police pursuit in Beaverton, as reported by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

In the early hours of the morning, around 2:30 a.m., law enforcement officers tried to pull over a 2011 BMW X5 near the intersection of Highway 217 and Southwest Walker Road. Initially complying with the stop, the driver of the BMW suddenly accelerated away from the scene.

Although the initial officer did not engage in a pursuit, other deputies later located the BMW entering Sunset Highway and subsequently heading southbound on Highway 217.

Following the vehicle, deputies executed a PIT maneuver to bring the car to a stop near the junction of Southwest Second Avenue and Southwest Franklin Avenue.

A concrete mixing truck overturned in Woodland on Saturday morning, causing a spill of diesel fuel and fresh concrete on the road while trapping the driver.

Upon halting the vehicle, the driver abandoned the BMW and attempted to escape on foot. Pursuing deputies managed to apprehend the fleeing individual, identified as 25-year-old Nicolas Pena-Galvan, a short distance away.

Further examination revealed that Pena-Galvan had discarded a stolen firearm while attempting to evade capture.

Subsequently, Pena-Galvan was transferred to Washington County Jail where he is currently facing a series of charges, including:

  • Two counts of felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
  • A misdemeanor charge related to fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
  • Felony possession of a weapon.
  • Carrying a concealed weapon.
  • First-degree theft.
  • Second-degree criminal damage.
