The Scranton Police Department (SPD) has reported that a man has been arrested after allegedly brandishing an AK-47 and threatening people in Scranton on Saturday night.
According to a statement released by the SPD on May 4th, officers were called to the 1300 block of Oram Street following reports of a man threatening individuals with the assault rifle.
The man, later identified as 33-year-old Elvis Nieves-Medina, was found inside a residence on Oram Street when law enforcement arrived at the scene.
Upon exiting the property, Nieves-Medina dropped a rifle magazine and keys before being apprehended by the police.
During the arrest, authorities discovered a loaded pistol concealed on Nieves-Medina’s waistband, which was confiscated by law enforcement.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a loaded AK-47 hidden under a comforter in the front bedroom on the third floor of the apartment.
Following interviews with residents in the area, police determined that Nieves-Medina had threatened a family after a dispute outside their Oram Street residence.
Court documents reveal that Nieves-Medina had engaged in an altercation with another individual, departed the scene, and then returned 15 minutes later with the AK-47 in question.
Elvis Nieves-Medina is now facing a range of charges, including terroristic threats, simple assault by menace, harassment, and reckless endangerment.
