A tragic incident occurred late Saturday night as a driver crashed into the White House gates and unfortunately died, according to authorities. The driver’s identity has not been released by the police, but the Secret Service has confirmed that there was no threat to the White House as a result of the crash.
President Joe Biden was not present at the White House during the incident, as he was spending the weekend in Delaware. The Secret Service assured that the President’s safety was not compromised.
The Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene at 15th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW after a vehicle struck the White House security perimeter gates at a high speed around 10:30 p.m. The incident is currently being investigated as a traffic crash by the MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Secret Service, mentioned that security personnel tried to save the driver’s life while following standard protocols in such situations.
