The body of a woman found dead on Thursday on the University of Georgia campus has been confirmed as 22-year-old Laken Hope Riley, according to the Athens-Clarke County coroner as reported by CNN.

Riley was a student at Augusta University College of Nursing located in Athens, the same city where the University of Georgia is situated, officials at Augusta University revealed.

Coroner Sonny Wilson stated that the cause and manner of Riley’s death are pending further examination of the body, scheduled to take place on Friday.

University of Georgia Police Chief Jeffrey L. Clark revealed that authorities were alerted around noon on Thursday by a concerned individual whose friend had gone jogging at the university’s intramural fields and had not returned.

The body of the jogger was discovered at approximately 12:38 p.m. in a location behind a nearby lake, as mentioned by Clark.

Police suspect foul play in the incident, although no information regarding suspects or possible motives has been disclosed at this time.

In response to the tragic event, all classes on the University of Georgia’s Athens campus have been cancelled for Friday, with normal operations set to resume on Monday, as confirmed by the university.

Additionally, Augusta University has decided to suspend classes on Friday at the College of Nursing campus in Athens as a mark of respect.
