Although Brueckner is not currently facing charges related to the McCann case, a number of key witnesses are expected to provide chilling testimony that may shed more light on the fate of the British toddler.

The first witness is an ex-partner who will testify about how Brueckner allegedly abused her daughter in secret. The trial has caused significant tension, with Brueckner’s lawyer Dr. Friedrich Fulscher threatening to challenge the jury and potentially force a retrial at great expense.

Legal experts in Germany speculate that the trial is being used as a test of witness credibility, as many of the witnesses may be crucial if Brueckner is charged in connection with Maddie’s case.

A conviction could result in a sentence of up to 15 years for Brueckner, with prosecutors possibly seeking additional measures such as a ‘public danger’ clause to ensure the safety of the public in case of further charges related to Madeleine McCann.

Brueckner is facing charges of raping Irish holiday rep Hazel Behan at knifepoint, tying her to a table, and filming the assault. The case bears eerie similarities to the disappearance of Madeleine, with Brueckner allegedly climbing into a ground-floor flat balcony in the Algarve.

Additionally, he is accused of tying a teenage girl to a post in the same resort where Maddie vanished and forcing her to engage in a sexual act. In a separate incident, Brueckner reportedly raped a woman in her 80s and filmed the assault.

Other charges against Brueckner include indecent exposure in front of children and making threats towards a prison guard. He denies all allegations, and the trial is ongoing.

Last week, Brueckner’s trial was abruptly suspended after just nine minutes following a controversial statement made by a judge in court. His lawyer argued that a potential juror’s social media post calling for violence against a political figure rendered her unfit to participate in the trial.

Investigators have also uncovered information suggesting that Brueckner underwent surgery to remove a birthmark on his left thigh to avoid recognition by one of his victims. It is believed that he has spent significant sums of money to alter his appearance, potentially making him unrecognizable from his previous self.

Brueckner first came to the attention of authorities as the main suspect in the abduction of Madeleine McCann from a holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007. Despite being under investigation for the past five years, he has not been formally charged in connection with Maddie’s disappearance.
