RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – Police have announced an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting that took place on East North Street in Rapid City. The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Esther Wolfe, a resident of the area.
Authorities have stated that 23-year-old Ezekiel Mayweather has been taken into custody as an accomplice in the case and has been charged with conspiracy to commit first degree murder.
Recent events in Rapid City have raised concerns as this marks the third killing in the city this month. The incidents include Wednesday night’s fatal shooting in North Rapid, Tuesday’s brutal killing in Rapid Valley, and another shooting that occurred in front of Family Dollar on Haines Avenue in early February.
Rapid City Police Department Chief Don Hedrick has expressed his firm stance against such acts of violence, stating that they will not be tolerated or normalized in the community.
Chief Hedrick emphasised, “Senseless acts of violence are unacceptable in our community. When such incidents occur, we allocate all available resources towards achieving justice and accountability. Unlike other areas, in Rapid City, these events are taken very seriously, and it is our utmost priority to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”
At present, it remains unclear if there are additional individuals involved in the fatal shooting, and the investigation is still ongoing.
