Accident – Death – Obituary News : The residents of Rowan County are in for a treat as the Charters of Freedom display is set to make its way to the area. During a recent meeting, the Rowan County Board of Commissioners gave the green light to Foundation Forward, a non-profit organisation, to proceed with the construction of life-size replicas of the historic documents.
Ron Lewis, a representative from Foundation Forward, shared that the organisation has successfully installed similar displays across various communities in the United States. These displays feature replicas of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The best part? The display will come at no cost to the public, as Foundation Forward will cover all expenses associated with the project.
The proposed location for the Charters of Freedom display is outside the West End Plaza, although the final decision on the exact site is yet to be confirmed. Lewis mentioned that Foundation Forward has recently started incorporating a document showcasing the 13th, 14th, 15th, 19th, and 24th amendments. This addition aims to ensure that the display accurately represents the diverse history of the nation, addressing feedback from underrepresented communities.
Following a suggestion from a Union County commissioner, Foundation Forward decided to include a fourth pedestal listing the “Civil Rights Amendments” in the display. Once the location is finalised, the organisation will draft a letter of intent outlining the responsibilities of both parties involved. While the display may have to wait until the completion of construction at the mall, Foundation Forward is eager to bring the Charters of Freedom to Rowan County.
Commissioner Mike Caskey expressed his support for the project, highlighting the significance of having such historical documents accessible to the community. With unanimous approval from the commissioners, the stage is set for Foundation Forward to commence the construction of the Charters of Freedom display in Rowan County.
