A 26-year-old man accused of killing a 5-year-old boy was arrested in Haridwar after an encounter on Wednesday night. The incident took place in the Chamgadad Tapu area on December 8 last year. The accused, identified as Deepak alias Pradeep, hails from Delhi and worked at a tea shop in Haridwar. He allegedly attempted to sodomize the boy but failed, leading to the murder before fleeing the scene.
According to SP (city) Sawtantra Kumar Singh, Deepak, a daily wage worker from Delhi, frequently visited Haridwar for work. Police received a tip-off that led them to the Chamgadad Tapu area where Deepak was spotted. During the confrontation, Deepak opened fire, injuring Sub-Inspector Pawan Dimri. In the exchange of gunfire, Deepak sustained a bullet wound to his leg and was subsequently taken to the district hospital before being taken into custody. During interrogation, Deepak confessed to the murder.
