Mumbai: The Dharavi police successfully rescued a five-year-old girl who was kidnapped from Dharavi and apprehended a tailor from Vithalwadi in Kalyan on Wednesday.
The arrested suspect, identified as Razab Shabir Shah (32), has been charged under the Pocso Act and has been placed in police custody. According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred on February 20 when the young girl was playing outside her residence and was abducted by Shah.
Under the influence of alcohol, Shah transported the girl to Vithalwadi and kept her in a friend’s residence. Police officers meticulously reviewed CCTV footage from 90 feet road, as well as from Sion and Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar railway station. The footage showed Shah boarding a train from Sion and disembarking at Kalyan.
Senior inspector Raja Bidkar recounted, “We received a notification from Kalyan police reporting that locals had brought a girl from Dharavi. We accompanied her parents and successfully rescued her.” The young girl disclosed to the authorities that Shah had behaved inappropriately towards her.
Furthermore, the accused tailor has been remanded to police custody while the investigation continues. The swift action by the Dharavi police led to the safe recovery of the abducted child, bringing relief to the concerned family.
