Panaji, Feb 22 (PTI) – A case has been registered against a Russian national for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl, who also belongs to his country, in North Goa district, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred on the intervening night of February 4-5 during an overnight study camp organized by the accused at Arambol in North Goa. The victim, who is currently on vacation in Goa with her parents, informed them about the assault on Monday, prompting them to file a complaint with the Women and Child Protection Unit of Goa police.
Ilia Vasulev, the accused, has been known to conduct study camps in Goa, primarily for the children of foreign nationals. According to Superintendent of Police Bousette Silva, the victim disclosed that the accused inappropriately touched her, which she revealed to her parents days after the incident.
Following the complaint lodged by the girl’s parents, an FIR was registered against Vasulev under Indian Penal Code section 376 (rape), as well as provisions related to sexual assault under the Goa Children’s Act and the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Silva stated, “The police are currently searching for the accused. We have reached out to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to track his whereabouts and determine if he is still in the country or has returned to Russia.” He also mentioned that both the parents of the victim are Russian nationals.
