Ilia Vasulev : Russian National Arrested for Assaulting Minor in Goa

On the night of February 4-5, a disturbing incident occurred in North Goa district, where a Russian national allegedly sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl who was attending an overnight study camp organized by the accused at Arambol.

The young victim, who is currently vacationing in Goa with her parents, bravely disclosed the assault to her parents on Monday. They immediately reported the incident to the Women and Child Protection Unit of the Goa police.

Identified as Ilia Vasulev, the accused has been known to conduct study camps in Goa, primarily for children of foreign nationals, according to police sources.

Superintendent of Police Bousette Silva, in charge of the Women and Child Protection Unit, stated that the victim reported that the accused “inappropriately touched” her during the camp. The complaint led to the filing of an FIR against Vasulev under IPC section 376 (rape), as well as relevant sections of the Goa Children’s Act and the POCSO Act.

Efforts are currently underway to locate and apprehend the accused. The police have reached out to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to track Vasulev’s movements and determine whether he is still in Goa or has left for Russia.

Both the parents of the victim are also Russian nationals, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and protection of children, especially in unfamiliar settings such as study camps and foreign travel.
