An investigation is currently underway following the tragic death of a young boy in Lancaster, whose neck was slashed. Authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the case, but the live-in boyfriend of the child’s mother is being treated as a person of interest.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a medical rescue call on the 43400 block of 57th Street West just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, they discovered a male juvenile with a severe laceration to the neck. The child, believed to be around 3 years old, was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s officials are treating the death as a homicide. According to reports from the Los Angeles Times, the boy was found in a bathtub with his throat slit. The discovery was made by a family friend who had been asked to check on the boy by one of his relatives.

During their investigation, deputies also found Rena Naulls, aged 39, at the residence experiencing a medical emergency. Naulls, who is the live-in boyfriend of the child’s mother, allegedly attempted to harm himself at the scene. He was subsequently taken to a hospital and is currently in a stable condition.

“Mr. Naulls has been identified as a person of interest in this matter,” stated sheriff’s officials. However, it is important to note that no arrests have been made at this time.

There were three other children present in the home at the time of the incident. Fortunately, they were unharmed and have been placed under the care of the county Department of Children and Family Services. The children’s ages are reported to be 9, 11, and 14, according to The Times.
