The tragic incident that took place in East Village over the weekend has shocked the residents of San Diego. The victim, identified as Ali Jabbar, a 43-year-old San Diego resident, was fatally shot while walking with a group on 16th Street near Market Street at around 3:05 p.m. on Sunday.
The senseless act of violence occurred when an unknown suspect approached Jabbar and opened fire, leaving him with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save his life, Jabbar succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
San Diego police Lt. Jud Campbell revealed that the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack, with the suspect specifically aiming for Jabbar. “It does appear the suspect intentionally targeted the victim and not the people around him,” Campbell stated.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the shooter, described as a man wearing dark clothing, fleeing the scene and getting into a silver or gray sedan before driving off towards state Route 94. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward.
