(BRPROUD) — A Louisiana State University student has been arrested and charged after allegedly uploading child pornography using his university-issued student email address. Jahi Palmer-Davis, a 20-year-old resident of Baton Rouge, was identified as the suspect in this case following an investigation by the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime Unit and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation was initiated on Jan. 5, prompted by a tip received by the Cyber Crime Unit regarding two videos/images containing child sexual abuse material. Instagram flagged an account for uploading such material on Dec. 31, 2023, leading investigators to trace the IP address back to LSU. The authorities then contacted the LSU Police Department detective to further pursue the case.
According to official documents, two images were discovered during the Instagram search warrant execution, along with incriminating conversations between Palmer-Davis and other individuals discussing the trading and selling of videos containing child sexual abuse material. Shockingly, Palmer-Davis allegedly directed a user, claiming to be 14 years old, on where to post nude images online.
Further investigation confirmed that the IP address used to upload the illicit images/videos belonged to Louisiana State University and was linked to Palmer-Davis’ student email address on multiple occasions. Consequently, Palmer-Davis has been charged with two counts of child pornography and two counts of unauthorized use of a wireless router system. He was booked into jail on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
