PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has released the identity of the man who tragically passed away in police custody in Largo, Md., and has also identified the officers involved in the incident.

Incident Details

On February 16, law enforcement officers responded to a report about a “suspicious person” who was reportedly knocking on doors in the 10700 block of Lake Arbor Way at approximately 7:45 p.m. Upon arrival, an officer encountered the man in question in the roadway, who then proceeded to walk onto a nearby lawn and lay down.

Subsequently, the man was placed in handcuffs to facilitate his transportation to a medical facility for evaluation. Unfortunately, he experienced a medical emergency and went into distress while in police custody. Officers on the scene immediately provided assistance, and medical personnel took over resuscitation efforts. Tragically, the man was pronounced deceased on-site shortly after.

Identification of the Deceased

The deceased has been identified as 61-year-old Joseph Holmes, a resident of Clinton, Md.

Officers Involved

The officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department who were involved in the incident have been named as Corporal Alyssa Tomaselli, Corporal Mark Price, and Officer Marvin Marks, all of whom are part of the Bureau of Patrol. Additionally, an officer from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) Police Department, identified as Officer Andre Brooks, was present during the events leading to Holmes’s death.

Ongoing Investigation

The Independent Investigations Division is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Joseph Holmes’s untimely passing while in police custody. More details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
