Ghanaian Man Shot Dead in Canada

A tragic incident occurred in Canada as 39-year-old Adu Boakye, a Ghanaian immigrant, was shot and killed in a random shooting. The father of four had recently relocated to Canada with his family, seeking a better life.

According to police reports, the shooting took place in the North York area of northwest Toronto. Adu Boakye was one of two victims in the incident that occurred on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at around 3:05 p.m. in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area.

Despite efforts to save his life, Adu Boakye succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced dead. The Homicide and Missing Persons Unit confirmed his identity in a statement released on February 20.

During a media briefing, Detective Phillip Campbell revealed that Adu Boakye and another 16-year-old boy were shot in separate incidents less than 24 hours apart while waiting for a bus in the same area. The motive behind the shootings remains unclear, with police describing it as a random and indiscriminate act.

Detective Campbell emphasised that there was no prior connection between Adu Boakye and the perpetrator, and he was simply going about his daily routine when the tragic incident occurred. The authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in apprehending the assailant, who is believed to be involved in gang-related activities.

As the community mourns the loss of Adu Boakye, the search for justice continues, with the hope that those responsible for this senseless act of violence will be brought to justice.
