In a heartbreaking incident, a 1-year-old boy named Ezekiel Narville passed away at a hospital in Lee County in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The child was found unresponsive at his residence, leading to his untimely death.
Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton confirmed the identity of the child, while authorities have charged Dorothy Kay Hight, 32, and Seth Chandler Jake Kendrick, 29, with capital murder in connection to the tragic event.
Opelika police Capt. John Hester revealed that Hight was the mother of the young boy, and Kendrick was described as a friend who resided with them in the same house.
Responding to a distress call at 12:15 a.m., law enforcement arrived at the 200 block of 24th Street in Opelika, where Ezekiel was found unresponsive. He was swiftly transported to East Alabama Medical Center, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 12:29 a.m.
The child’s body has been transferred to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for further examination through an autopsy. Authorities have refrained from disclosing additional details at this time.
Captain Hester noted that the child displayed visible signs of physical harm, indicating a distressing turn of events. He emphasised the gravity of such cases involving children, acknowledging the emotional toll it takes on law enforcement officers.
