Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A devastating incident occurred in McHenry County, IL, last week when a 19-year-old man from Harvard lost his life in a three-vehicle collision on Route 14 near Woodstock. The young man, identified as Diego Gonzalez Mendoza, was critically injured in the accident and was airlifted to Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside in Rockford, where he tragically passed away later that day.

According to reports from the Lake & McHenry County Scanner, alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the crash. The incident took place at the intersection of Route 14 and Dunham Road near Woodstock at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 12. It was reported that a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze travelling south on Route 14 attempted to overtake a semi-truck in the 17100 block of Route 14 in unincorporated Harvard and collided with a 2011 Infinity.

The impact caused the Infinity to veer off the road and come to a stop in an open field. The Chevrolet continued its trajectory, crossing the roadway and veering left into the parking lot of a business where it collided head-on with an unoccupied Hyundai Sonata. Mendoza was identified as the driver of the Chevrolet.

Fortunately, the driver of the Infinity, a 63-year-old man from Lake Barrington, and a passenger in the vehicle, a 63-year-old woman from Chicago, escaped unharmed.

During the collision, a natural gas main was severed, prompting a response from NICOR gas to address the leak and ensure the area’s safety. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently ongoing.
