A Manhattan resident voluntarily surrendered to the authorities at the Riley County Police Department on Monday. The individual in question, identified as Tyler Staatz, aged 18, was taken into custody at approximately 9:58 a.m. This arrest was made in relation to an outstanding warrant linked to sex crimes, as confirmed by officials from the Riley County Police Department.
According to law enforcement officials, the charges against Staatz stem from multiple incidents involving a 14-year-old female victim who was known to him. These alleged offenses are reported to have taken place around September 2023.
Staatz faces several serious charges, including rape, aggravated indecent liberties with a child, intercourse with a child between the ages of 14 and 16, indecent liberties with a child between the ages of 14 and 16, as well as two counts of lewd fondling.
Following his arrest, Tyler Staatz was booked into the Riley County Jail. However, he was subsequently released after posting a bond of $75,000. As of Tuesday morning, he was no longer held in custody.
Given the sensitive nature of the crimes involved, Riley County Police officials have stated that no further details will be disclosed at this time.
