A tragic incident occurred on Ooty Road near Kallar in Coimbatore district, resulting in the death of a 50-year-old man and leaving his wife with minor injuries. The deceased, identified as P. Ganesan from Nanjanad in the Nilgiris, was travelling with his wife G. Manjula (47) when their sports utility vehicle (SUV) plunged into a gorge in the ghat section.
The fatal accident took place around 1 p.m. as the couple was making their way from Mettupalayam to their village. The SUV reportedly veered off the road at the second hairpin bend of the ghat section, with Ganesan allegedly losing control of the vehicle, leading to the tragic fall of about 100 feet.
Upon impact, Ganesan succumbed to his injuries, while the Fire and Rescue Services team, led by station officer K. Balasundaram from Mettupalayam, swiftly responded to the scene. They managed to rescue Ms. Manjula, who was then rushed to the Government Hospital in Mettupalayam for medical attention. Meanwhile, Ganesan’s body was transported to the hospital by the authorities.
The Mettupalayam police have initiated an investigation into the incident and have registered a case to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic accident on Ooty Road.
