One individual of interest in the case is 42-year-old Don Steven McDougal, who has been cooperating with authorities to some extent. McDougal, a friend of Cunningham’s father, lived in a trailer behind their house and would occasionally take her to school.
A key piece of evidence in Audrii’s disappearance is a red ‘Hello Kitty’ backpack that she was supposed to have with her on the day she went missing. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced that a small backpack, likely belonging to a child, was discovered near the Lake Livingston Dam. TxDPS authorities have expressed confidence that the backpack belongs to Audrii.
Audrii Cunningham was last seen near her home in Polk County, Texas, on February 15, 2024. She was expected to catch the school bus at her neighborhood stop but never boarded. Described as a white female with blonde hair and blue eyes, Audrii weighs 75 pounds and is approximately 4 feet 1 inch tall. She was last seen wearing black pants, a black hoodie with white lettering, and black high-top tennis shoes.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Texas Ranger Division and Department of Public Safety, are assisting the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in the search for Audrii. McDougal, believed to be the last person seen with Audrii before her disappearance, was arrested for assaulting a male following an argument.
Sheriff Byron Lyons stated that investigators are working to determine the nature of the crime involved in Audrii’s disappearance to ensure any charges filed will withstand legal scrutiny. The reward for information leading to an arrest in the case has increased to $10,000, with authorities focusing on McDougal and his dark blue 2003 Chevrolet Suburban.
