The California State University (CSU) expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the California Faculty Association’s (CFA) ratification vote, as announced by the CSU chancellor’s office on Monday.
The tentative agreement entails a 10 percent general salary increase for all faculty members by July. Furthermore, it includes a salary minimum raise for the lowest-paid faculty, resulting in substantial increases, with some as high as 21 percent, according to the chancellor’s office.
In response to concerns raised by the CFA, the agreement also includes enhancements such as an extended paid family leave from six to 10 weeks and a streamlined process for ensuring gender-inclusive restrooms and lactation spaces are readily accessible.
“We eagerly anticipate the CSU Board of Trustees Committee on collective bargaining ratification of the agreement in March and look forward to continuing to collaborate with the CFA and its members in fulfilling our mission to serve our students and the university,” stated the CSU chancellor’s office.
The CFA initiated strikes in 2023 and, more recently, in January 2024. The latest strike, scheduled for the first week of the spring semester in January 2024, saw CSU agreeing to enter negotiations after just one day of strike action.
