Student Arrested on Murder Charges Following University Dorm Shootings

DENVER — (AP) — Authorities have apprehended a student in connection with the tragic shootings that resulted in the deaths of two individuals in a dorm room at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs last week, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Nicholas Jordan, 25, has been taken into custody on two counts of first-degree murder. University spokesperson Jenna Press confirmed that Jordan was enrolled as a student at the institution at the time of the incident.

The victims have been identified as Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, and Samuel Knopp, 24, who was a student at the university located approximately 69 miles south of Denver. Montgomery was not currently enrolled at the university.

Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, Jordan was located in a vehicle by the police’s motor vehicle theft unit. He was subsequently apprehended by the tactical enforcement unit in Colorado Springs, as announced by the police via the social media platform X.

Authorities have stated that the shooting incident on Friday appeared to be a targeted attack involving individuals who were acquainted with each other, rather than a random act of violence on the university campus. While the cause of death will be determined by the coroner’s office, it has been confirmed that each victim sustained at least one gunshot wound, as previously reported by the police.

Law enforcement officials responded to reports of gunfire at the university’s dormitory, Creston House, early Friday morning, where they discovered the two deceased individuals.

In the aftermath of the incident, a campus-wide lockdown was implemented for 90 minutes. The university remained closed for the remainder of the day and throughout the weekend, with Monday’s classes being canceled as the institution offers walk-in counselling services.

A memorial walk was held on Monday at the university, which boasts a student population of over 11,000 and nearly 2,000 faculty and staff.

At present, it remains unclear whether Jordan has legal representation. Court records related to the case have yet to be made available, and no hearing has been scheduled.
