Authorities at the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office reported that an inmate was the victim of a stabbing incident at the Pasquotank Correctional Institute in North Carolina.
According to officials, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 18. Deputies were alerted to the situation and quickly responded to the facility where they found the inmate with multiple stab wounds.
The victim, identified as 38-year-old Jamaal Shawkir Griffin, sustained 18 superficial lacerations during the assault. The injuries were located on his head, shoulders, hands, and legs.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were already on the scene, providing initial treatment to Griffin before he was transferred to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for further medical attention. Following his release from the hospital, Griffin was taken back to Pasquotank Correctional.
Authorities revealed that a suspect has been identified in connection with the stabbing incident. During a search of the suspect’s cell, a homemade shank was discovered. However, no charges have been filed against the inmate at this time.
