A man from Detroit has been taken into custody in relation to a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of two individuals in a dormitory at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs over the weekend.
The Colorado Springs Police Department confirmed that 25-year-old Nicholas Jordan was apprehended on Monday morning following the shooting incident.
Reports indicate that on Friday morning at approximately 6 a.m., authorities at the university received reports of gunfire emanating from a dormitory on the campus. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless bodies of an adult female and an adult male within the premises.
Later on Friday evening, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Jordan, prompting a search operation to locate him. He was successfully taken into custody on Monday morning without incident.
The victims have been identified as 26-year-old Celie Rain Montgomery from Pueblo, CO and 24-year-old Samuel Knopp from Parker, CO. Their untimely deaths are currently under investigation as homicides by law enforcement authorities.
Following the incident, a lockdown was enforced on campus for a period of approximately 90 minutes, which was subsequently restricted to a student apartment complex. As a result of the ongoing investigation, classes at the university were cancelled on Monday.
Notably, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs is home to a student body exceeding 11,000 individuals, along with nearly 2,000 faculty and staff members.
