DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A tragic incident unfolded in Daytona Beach as a 40-year-old man from Jacksonville was fatally struck by a car after walking away from a traffic stop on Interstate 95.

The events leading up to the fatal collision began when an FHP trooper initiated a traffic stop for a suspected impaired driver near LPGA Boulevard at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Saturday. The trooper instructed the driver to remain in the vehicle, but the driver defied the orders and exited the car.

Despite commands from the trooper to lie on the ground, the driver refused, prompting the trooper to deploy a taser in an attempt to subdue him.

Following a brief struggle on the pavement, the driver abruptly stood up and walked into oncoming traffic. Tragically, he was struck by a passing vehicle while in the middle of the center lane and subsequently hit by multiple other vehicles. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported among the other motorists involved in the collision.
