A 65-year-old clergyman, Timothy Adedibu, has been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly luring a nine-year-old girl into his apartment in Magboro, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, where he sexually assaulted her.
The incident, which took place on Thursday, February 15, 2024, shocked the community, leading the survivor’s uncle to raise the alarm. Adedibu, who is believed to be the leader of a local church, is now under investigation by the authorities.
Confirming the arrest, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, stated that the suspect had been taken into custody. She also mentioned that the survivor had been provided with medical care and that all parties involved would be transferred to the police headquarters for further interrogation.
In a separate case, the police also arrested another suspect, Prince Dara, for allegedly molesting a 17-year-old girl in Abolaniyi Street, Idorawa, via Idi-Oke. The incident, which occurred on February 8, 2024, involved Dara luring the girl into his house, threatening her with a knife, and sexually assaulting her multiple times before releasing her.
Reacting to the disturbing trend of sexual abuse, legal practitioner and human rights lawyer, Collins Aigbogun, emphasised the severity of the crime. He highlighted that anyone found guilty of defilement faced the possibility of life imprisonment, as it was considered a felony under criminal law.
As investigations continue into these cases of abuse, the Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice for the survivors and holding the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
