LARGO, Fla. – Two Brothers Found Dead in Unincorporated Largo Home

In a tragic turn of events, two brothers, James McKinley Barber, Sr. (James Sr.) and Wesley Barber, were discovered deceased inside a residence in unincorporated Largo. The grim discovery was made after the brothers failed to show up for a planned family vacation, leaving loved ones concerned and authorities puzzled.

Deputies from the Patrol Operations Bureau were called to the address at 7981 Smoketree Court on Friday to conduct a welfare check on James Sr. and Wesley Barber. The family grew worried when the brothers did not arrive for the vacation as planned.

Family Vacation Plans Turn into a Tragic Mystery

Wesley Barber, who had travelled from Kentucky to visit his family, was set to depart for the vacation, leaving James Sr. and James McKinley Barber, Jr. (James Jr.) at home. James Jr. was entrusted with looking after the family pet while the others were away.

As concerns mounted, family members attempted to reach out to James Sr. and Wesley Barber via phone but were unable to establish contact. Their worries escalated upon arriving at James Sr.’s residence and noting his car parked with the trunk ajar.

Concerns for the brothers’ safety were compounded by James Jr.’s history of mental health issues and the knowledge of a firearm in the house. When deputies arrived at the scene, they observed blood seeping from beneath the front door, leading to a grim discovery.

Shocking Revelations and Arrest

Investigations revealed that both James Sr. and Wesley Barber had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Surveillance camera audio captured the chilling events, shedding light on the tragic incident.

The audio recordings captured a series of gunshots around 6 a.m., followed by James Jr.’s verbal outburst. He was later apprehended by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and is facing two charges of first-degree murder, awaiting transfer back to Pinellas County.

Authorities have notified the next of kin of the victims, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths continues.
