ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A football coach hailing from Spalding County in Georgia has been taken into custody in connection with the tragic death of his girlfriend in Maryland over the weekend, as reported by the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Carl Kearney, Jr., a 43-year-old individual residing in Griffin, made a startling confession upon entering the Division V Clinton police station. Kearney admitted to officers that he had, in fact, strangled his girlfriend earlier that morning at her residence in Accokeek, the department disclosed.

The victim, identified as 38-year-old Patrina Best, was discovered unresponsive by responding officers at her home on St. James Court, prompting a welfare check. Regrettably, Best was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the department.

Following extensive questioning by detectives, Kearney acknowledged to strangling Best during a heated altercation. Consequently, he now faces charges of first and second-degree murder, in addition to other related offences.
