HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Authorities are investigating a devastating fatal crash that occurred in West Houston on Sunday evening, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving one individual hospitalized with injuries.

The tragic incident, believed to have been caused by speeding, involved a collision between a black Toyota sedan and a gray Scion SUV at approximately 8 p.m. The crash took place on the 6300 block of Richmond Avenue near Greenridge Drive.

According to reports from the authorities, the black car was occupied solely by a driver, while the gray SUV had two adults in the front seats and two children in the back. Tragically, both adults in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed that the deceased woman was the mother of the two children in the back seat, with the man in the vehicle being a relative. Fortunately, the two children, aged five and ten, sustained only minor injuries in the crash.

As investigators continue their work to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident, efforts are being made to obtain surveillance footage from nearby businesses. Additionally, authorities are speaking to witnesses and attempting to locate family members who can provide care for the children.

A DWI task force has been deployed to speak with the surviving driver, who is currently receiving treatment in hospital for injuries sustained during the crash.
