Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities have identified two individuals who were found dead inside a dormitory room at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. The incident, which occurred on Friday, is being treated as a homicide investigation rather than a murder-suicide, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The victims have been named as 24-year-old Samuel Knopp from Parker, Colorado, and 26-year-old Celie Rain Montgomery from Pueblo, Colorado. Knopp was a student at the university, while Montgomery was not enrolled there.

Police were alerted to the situation early Friday morning when reports of gunshots were received from the Crestone House dormitory on campus. Upon arrival, authorities discovered Knopp and Montgomery deceased in the room, each with a gunshot wound to the head.

The campus was briefly placed on lockdown following the discovery, but restrictions were lifted within an hour and a half. As a precaution, the university remained closed for the remainder of the day.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s homicide unit has taken over the investigation, with the focus on seeking justice for the victims and their families. An autopsy has been conducted by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death, which are being treated as homicides.

Officials have stressed that this appears to be an isolated incident involving individuals who were acquainted with each other, rather than a random attack on the university or its students. They are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

This tragic event marks the third and fourth homicides in the city of Colorado Springs this year, compared to two at the same time last year. Authorities are dedicated to delivering accountability and justice for the victims and their families, despite the challenges posed by an active and evolving investigation.
