SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 17, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Anthony Dominic Rendon, the perpetrator behind a fatal drive-by shooting at a South Jordan party in 2021, has received a prison sentence that could extend to life imprisonment.

A ruling by a 3rd District Court judge has mandated a 15-year to life term for the murder of 19-year-old Kelly Glaubensklee, as announced by the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office on Friday.

Rendon, who was 18 years old when the tragic incident occurred, was handed the 15 years to life sentence for the first-degree felony murder charge, along with an additional three to five years for a third-degree felony discharge of a firearm, to be served consecutively.

Moreover, Rendon was also given a three to five-year sentence for each of the remaining nine counts of third-degree felony discharge of a firearm, all to be served concurrently with the initial charges.

Speaking on the sentencing, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill expressed appreciation for the judge’s recognition of the severity of Rendon’s crimes and the threat he posed to the community, resulting in a minimum of nearly 20 years behind bars.

Following the June 6, 2021, killing, Rendon was apprehended at his family’s residence in West Jordan, just two days after the tragic event unfolded.

Details of the Incident

According to Rendon’s charging documents, South Jordan police responded to a fight in progress call with shots fired at 1472 W. 11400 South around 1:57 a.m. on a Sunday.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered a large group of individuals at a residence where a party was taking place. The situation escalated when multiple altercations broke out, leading to the fatal shooting.

Witnesses testified that a physical altercation ensued, resulting in punches being thrown and a female being assaulted by an unidentified male. Subsequently, a second brawl erupted among the same group.

The shooting transpired as several individuals attempted to depart in a vehicle but were obstructed by attendees who damaged the car before it eventually drove away. It was at this moment that Rendon brandished a firearm from inside the vehicle, pointing it at partygoers and discharging multiple rounds.

The gunfire claimed the life of Kelly Glaubensklee, who was fatally struck in the chest by a bullet. Despite efforts to save him, Glaubensklee succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident.

Video evidence captured by witnesses at the party revealed Rendon leaning out of the vehicle window and firing the fatal shots. The police investigation confirmed that the shooting originated from the position where Rendon was situated in the car.

With the sentencing now finalized, the community hopes to find closure following the tragic events of that fateful night in South Jordan.
