A man was left seriously injured following a stabbing incident in East Providence, Rhode Island. The incident, which took place on Crescent Ave. in the Riverside section of the city, resulted in the victim sustaining multiple stab wounds and significant bleeding. The East Providence Police Department responded to two emergency calls regarding the assault, one of which came from the scene of the incident and the other from a nearby Cumberland Farms store.
Immediate Medical Response
Upon locating the victim in the parking lot of the Cumberland Farms store, officers quickly initiated medical treatment. The East Providence Fire Department also joined in providing assistance to the victim before he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. Currently, the victim remains in serious but stable condition as a result of the injuries sustained in the attack.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the incident, an investigation led to the identification of the suspect as 25-year-old Valdini Correia from North Providence. It was determined that Correia had entered the residence without permission and proceeded to stab the male victim without any provocation. The motive behind the attack was found to be linked to a domestic situation involving an ex-girlfriend.
Approximately one hour later, Correia was apprehended by the North Providence Police Department without any resistance. East Providence Police then took custody of him for further legal proceedings.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Valdini Correia has been charged with several offences including Domestic Burglary, Assault With Intent to Commit a Felony, Assault With a Deadly Weapon in a Dwelling, Weapons Other Than Firearms Prohibited, and Domestic Disorderly Conduct. Following his arrest, Correia was arraigned by a bail commissioner at the East Providence Police Department and was subsequently held without bail.
