Calvin Douglas Smith : “Bellingham Man Accused of Sex Crimes Against Minors”

In October 2023, the Bellingham Police Department initiated an investigation into reports of a 47-year-old man engaging in sexual relationships with two minor children. The man, identified as Calvin Douglas Smith, now 48, was located by Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies at Griffintown Park in Ferndale, where he was arrested without incident and booked into the Whatcom County Jail by BPD.

Smith is facing multiple felony charges in Whatcom County Superior Court, including 3 counts of 2nd-degree possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, 3 counts of 2nd-degree rape of a child (Class-A felony), 3rd-degree rape of a child, and 2 counts of communication with a minor for immoral purposes.

Prosecutors have requested that Smith be held in custody without the option to post bail due to the serious nature of the charges, which carry the potential for a life sentence in prison. The court agreed with this request at Smith’s preliminary hearing on February 13th.

Smith has a history of prior convictions for various crimes, including 4th-degree assault related to domestic violence, violation of a protection order related to domestic violence, residential burglary, 2nd-degree theft, 3rd-degree assault, bail jumping, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

As of February 17th, Smith remains in custody at the Whatcom County Jail without the option to post bail. Bellingham Police believe that there may be more victims connected to Smith.

Investigation has revealed that Smith has multiple young, vulnerable teenage victims with whom he has inappropriate relationships. Smith is known by the nickname “Dre” and has used the names “nononcntz” and “midnightmoney” on social media. BPD Detectives suspect there are additional victims in and around Bellingham.
