Accident – Death – Obituary News : The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is appealing to the public for assistance in locating a suspect involved in an incident that led to injuries to a deputy following a collision on Thursday morning.

At 1:34 a.m. on February 15, Sergeant J.T. Forman observed a Scion running a red traffic signal at the intersection of Butler Road and Chatham Heights Road. Forman attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver failed to stop and instead initiated a chase, according to authorities.

The pursuit continued with speeds reaching 60 mph as the driver proceeded on Chatham Heights Road towards Kings Highway (Route 3). Despite indicating a left turn initially, the driver turned right onto Hamilton Street, prompting the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office to continue the pursuit onto Hamilton Street and then onto Rodney Lane, behind the businesses of Chatham Shopping Center, without regard for speed bumps.

Upon reaching the rear of the Laundry Basket laundromat, instead of surrendering, the suspect turned around and crashed head-on into one of the marked patrol cars, causing minor injuries to a deputy, the police reported.

The suspect has been identified as Elijah Lucas, a 24-year-old resident of Stafford. Following the collision, Lucas fled the scene on foot, managing to evade an extensive overnight search. Active warrants have been issued for Lucas on charges including eluding, felony hit and run, felony assault on law enforcement, driving with a suspended license, expired registration, expired inspection, and failure to obey a traffic signal.

Lucas is described as a black male, 5’8” in height, and weighing 155 pounds. A photograph of Lucas taken in November last year has been included with this statement.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Elijah Lucas, please contact the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4400.
