A 39-year-old man, identified as David Gildea, is facing multiple charges after falsely reporting a bomb threat at Aims Community College in Greeley. The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

The authorities were alerted when Gildea called dispatch, expressing concerns about an imminent bomb detonation on the Aims campus. The caller abruptly ended the call, leaving the dispatcher with limited information. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office immediately sprang into action, deploying their Strike Team to ensure the safety of the students and staff.

Upon arriving at the scene, the Strike Team meticulously conducted both interior and exterior searches of the college premises. Fortunately, no explosives were found during the thorough sweep, bringing a sense of relief to the college community.

During the call, the suspect mentioned overhearing two individuals discussing a “cluster” in relation to the bomb. The sheriff’s office attempted to gather more information by contacting the caller through text messages. However, the conversation abruptly ended after the suspect identified himself as “David.”

Gildea is scheduled to appear in court on Friday at 2 p.m. for a bond hearing. Sheriff Steve Reams emphasized the severity of such incidents, stating, “These types of incidents are extremely dangerous and oftentimes difficult to solve. This suspect should be dealt with by the full strength of the court system.”
