Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe died of illness after serving a 2-year prison sentence
In a sad turn of events, Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe, an activist from the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM), has passed away. He made headlines in August 2022 when images of him chained to his hospital bed at Laquintinie Hospital in Douala were shared on social media.
Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe was arrested and imprisoned in September 2020 for participating in peaceful marches organized by Maurice Kamto’s CRM. After serving his 2-year sentence, he tragically lost his life due to an illness. The news was confirmed by lawyer Me Désiré Sikati, National Secretary Delegate in charge of Human Rights and Governance of the CRM. He expressed that Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe “finally gave his life for Cameroon.”
Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe was a dedicated CRM activist residing in Douala. During his time in prison, he fell ill and required hospitalization. Despite being hospitalized and chained to his bed at Laquintinie Hospital in Douala, he was later sentenced to 2 years in prison by the Military Court of Douala. Even with his deteriorating health, Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe completed his sentence. After unsuccessful treatments in Douala, he sought traditional medicine in the western region of Cameroon in hopes of finding a cure. Sadly, fate had other plans, and our dear comrade Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe succumbed to his illness.
Me Désiré Sikati, the National Secretary Delegate in charge of Human Rights and Governance of the CRM, paid tribute to Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe. He described him as a brave individual who fought for a new Cameroon. Me Désiré Sikati expressed his shock and disbelief at the sudden illness that befell Kouam Tatchuemo Adolphe. He stated, “After Rodrigue NDAGUEHO KOUFET, the dictatorship killed KOUAM TATCHUEMO Adolphe. You bravely participated in the political fight for the advent of a new Cameroon. You left your life there. But the fight continues, and we will win it so that you understand where you are that you did not die for nothing.”
