WASHINGTON — A resident of Framingham, Thomas J. Method, 57, has been apprehended on Wednesday on both felony and misdemeanor charges linked to his involvement in the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The allegations suggest that Method’s actions, along with others, caused significant disruption during a joint session of the U.S. Congress, which had gathered to certify and count the electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election.

Method is facing a felony offense of obstruction of an official proceeding, as stated in a criminal complaint filed in Washington. Additionally, he is charged with several misdemeanor offenses, including knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, as well as disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds.

On February 14, Method was arrested in Framingham and subsequently appeared in Massachusetts federal court for his initial hearing.

According to court documents, Method traveled from his Massachusetts residence to Washington to participate in the U.S. Capitol riots that transpired on January 6, 2021. Video evidence captured on that day shows a man, later identified as Method, entering the U.S. Capitol building amidst a riotous crowd.

Law enforcement discovered a video manifesto, recorded on January 5, where Method allegedly expressed his intentions: “Hopefully the strength in numbers and this movement will garner more Senators’ support, and we can overthrow this… I don’t mind the consequences as long as Trump remains the President. I anticipate mayhem, chaos, and pandemonium.”

The prosecution of this case is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, with the valuable assistance of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
