A student at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi was discovered hanging from the ceiling of their room, as reported by news agency PTI. The incident is suspected to be a case of suicide, although the motive behind it remains unknown. The investigation into the matter is currently underway.
The Student’s Background
According to PTI, the student hailed from Nashik, Maharashtra and resided in room number 757 at Dronacharya Hostel. Identified as Sanjay Nerkar, the 24-year-old was pursuing M.Tech at IIT Delhi.
Concerned about their son’s well-being, Nerkar’s family members attempted to reach out to him on Thursday night. However, as he did not answer their calls, they approached his hostel mates and requested them to check on him, revealed a police officer to PTI.
The Tragic Discovery
Upon receiving the family’s request, Nerkar’s fellow students at the Institute went to his hostel room. To their dismay, they found that the door was locked from the inside. They immediately notified the hostel guard, who assisted in breaking open the door. It was then that they tragically discovered the lifeless body of the student hanging in the room.
Following the heart-wrenching incident, the student’s family has been informed, and a thorough investigation is currently in progress to determine the cause of death. As of now, no suicide note has been found within the student’s hostel room.

This unfortunate incident comes to light just weeks after another tragic suicide involving a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) student in Kota, Rajasthan, on February 13.
