New Delhi: An unidentified man who was injured in an accident nearly five days ago has died under mysterious circumstances at a rain basera (night shelter) in south-east Delhi. The incident took place after the victim declined to visit the police station and sought medical treatment on his own, police said on Thursday.

The man, who remains unidentified, had been residing in the rain basera for the past two months. He was found unconscious by the caretaker of the shelter home, located at Ring Road, Sarai Kale Khan. The caretaker immediately alerted the police and an ambulance was dispatched to rush the victim to a nearby hospital.

Unfortunately, despite the efforts of medical professionals, the man was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. His body has since been shifted to the mortuary for further examination.

The caretaker informed the police that the man had been involved in an accident approximately five days ago. However, neither the caretaker nor the victim had reported the incident to the police or sought medical care at that time. Instead, the man had chosen to handle the situation on his own.

The police officer explained, “The deceased was a homeless person, and it seems that he did not want to involve the authorities or seek help. Unfortunately, this decision may have contributed to his untimely demise.”

The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. Efforts are being made to identify the victim and locate his family members. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
