The suspect, identified as Jason P. Marnell, was arrested during a routine traffic stop on Wednesday, February 14, at approximately 6:30 p.m. The arrest was made near Highway 59 and Clark Rd., situated north of Richmond. Marnell faces charges of first-degree murder and child abuse, as stated in the warrant.

The fateful incident that led to the arrest unfolded on January 14, when deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call at 304 E. Central St. in Richmond, Kansas. Upon arriving at the scene, the authorities discovered an unresponsive infant. Immediate life-saving measures were taken, and the baby boy was swiftly transported to an Ottawa hospital. Following the arrest, Jason P. Marnell was promptly booked into the Franklin County Jail, where he will await trial for the charges brought against him.
