The Pittsburgh Zoo Mourns the Loss of Beloved Elephant Calf

SOMERSET, Pa. – The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Tsuni, a beloved elephant calf. Tsuni lost her life after a sudden and brief battle with elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus (EEHV). This heartbreaking news comes as a shock to both the staff and visitors.

A Life Cut Short

Tsuni resided with her herd at the International Conservation Center (ICC) in Somerset. The other adult elephants in the herd have built up antibodies against EEHV over time, reducing their risk of contracting the disease. Despite the best efforts to protect Tsuni, her battle with EEHV proved to be too much.
