Authorities have identified a man who was found dead after another man surrendered following an hourslong barricade in a residence in Glendale, California. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the 3300 block of Reta Street, prompting a response from the Glendale Police Department.
Sgt. Victor Jackson of the Glendale Police Department reported that officers were initially called to the scene regarding an assault. Upon their arrival, evidence of an assault was discovered, but both the suspect and the victim were not immediately located. As a precautionary measure, three schools in the vicinity were placed on lockdown.
After a thorough investigation, officers were able to pinpoint the suspect’s location, which led them to a house on Reta Street. Following this discovery, the lockdowns at the schools were lifted, allowing students to leave the campus safely.
The Glendale Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT Team were deployed to the scene in order to initiate negotiations with the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Vahan Keshishyan of La Crescenta. After several hours, Keshishyan surrendered to SWAT operators.
Tragically, during the operation, officers discovered the lifeless body of a man at the scene. Later identified as 63-year-old Ordean Neva by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, the cause of Neva’s death remains unknown at this time. Additionally, information regarding a possible relationship between Keshishyan and Neva or Neva’s city of residence has not been provided.
Keshishyan was subsequently arrested and booked on suspicion of murder. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Glendale Police Department at 818-548-4911.
