Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Police in Kansas City have reported that a dispute between multiple individuals escalated into a shooting incident, resulting in one fatality and injuries to 22 others during a Super Bowl victory parade. The deceased victim has been identified as Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old local DJ.

The injured individuals range in age from eight to 47 years old, with more than half of them under the age of 16. Three suspects have been apprehended, two of whom are under the age of 18.

“This appeared to be a dispute between several people that ended in gunfire,” stated Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves during a press conference on Thursday.

Chief Graves confirmed the recovery of firearms at the scene but refrained from providing specific details regarding the type of guns used. No arrests have been made, and charges have not yet been filed as the investigation remains ongoing.

Law enforcement authorities have stated that there is no connection to terrorism in relation to this incident.

Ms. Lopez-Galvan, the sole fatality of Wednesday’s violence, hosted a Tex-Mex music show called “Taste of Tejano” on the local community radio station KKFI. The station expressed their grief in a Facebook statement, describing the act as senseless and a loss for both her family and the Kansas City community.

Nine children, aged six to fifteen, who sustained injuries were treated at Children’s Mercy Hospital in the city. Thankfully, all are expected to recover from their wounds.

Kansas City Police have appealed to the public for any additional information regarding the shooting. They have set up a phone line and an online tip page to collect information from potential witnesses or victims who have yet to come forward.

During the Super Bowl victory parade, which attracted hundreds of thousands of spectators, over 800 police officers were on patrol. The event culminated in a rally outside Union Station in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri.

A stage was erected outside the station, adorned with the Kansas City Chiefs’ red and gold colors, celebrating their consecutive NFL championship win on Sunday.

Shortly after the rally concluded around 2:00 PM local time (20:00 GMT), gunfire erupted west of the station. As a result, the area remains closed to the public on Thursday.

Video footage posted online captures members of the crowd restraining one of the alleged suspects on a nearby street.

Paul Contreras, a bystander who intervened, recounted the incident, stating that he was attending the parade with his three daughters. He described how he instinctively tackled the suspect, aided by another individual who shouted for assistance. Contreras’ actions helped prevent further harm.

The videos also show a long-barrelled gun being dropped and a member of the public picking it up and placing it away from the confrontation.

Chief Graves praised the bystanders who intervened and the emergency services for their prompt response to the shooting. She expressed her anger towards the incident but also gratitude for the actions taken.

According to Kansas City Fire Department Chief Ross Grundyson, medical personnel at the scene immediately provided assistance, despite some being only 40 feet away from the shooting.

While incidents of violence during celebratory events are not unheard of, several shootings have occurred at sporting celebrations across North America in recent years. In 2021, two shootings in Milwaukee left three individuals injured following the local basketball team’s first NBA championship in 50 years. In 2020, two people were killed in Los Angeles after the Dodgers won the World Series. Additionally, four individuals were shot and injured in Toronto in 2019 during a victory parade for the NBA Raptors’ championship win.

The Kansas City Chiefs organization issued a statement expressing their deep sadness regarding the violence. They reassured the public that their players, coaches, staff, and families were accounted for and safe.

Travis Kelce, the star tight end of the team, known for his connection with Taylor Swift, shared his heartbreak over the tragedy on social media.
