Remembering Grace Good: A Lifetime of Dedication to Bridgwater Pantomime Society
Grace Good, a beloved member of the Bridgwater Pantomime Society, sadly passed away on Wednesday, February 7, at the age of 97. Her death comes just weeks after this year’s annual pantomime, Aladdin, which she had been an integral part of for many years.
Grace, along with her beloved husband Harry, who was the producer and director for almost 30 years before his passing 39 years ago, founded the Bridgwater Pantomime Society in 1957. Alongside Alderman Oscar Coate, Peter Summerhayes, and others, they laid the foundation for what would become a cherished local theatre institution.
Throughout her nearly 70 years with the society, Grace took on various roles, including wardrobe mistress, publicity officer, and being in charge of calls. Her dedication and hard work were instrumental in the success and popularity of the society’s productions.

Keith and Margaret Robinson, the current producers/directors of the Bridgwater Pantomime Society, expressed their deep gratitude for Grace’s contributions. They acknowledged her immense involvement and recognized that without the hard work of founder members like Grace, the society would not have become the beloved local tradition it is today.
In their words, “We owe a massive debt of gratitude to founder members like Grace, who dedicated so many years of service to the society. Without them, countless young children in Bridgwater would not have had the opportunity to experience or be a part of a pantomime.”
Grace’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at Sedgemoor Crematorium, starting at 2pm. As a tribute to her vibrant personality and love for the fun things in life, guests are encouraged to wear something purple. It was a color she adored and even sported in her trademark purple hair.
Tina and Colin Heath, Grace’s daughter and son-in-law, expressed their hope that the funeral will be a fitting celebration of her long and remarkable life as a stalwart of local theatre in Bridgwater. They described Grace as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and emphasized her ability to touch the hearts and minds of many in Bridgwater and beyond.
The annual Bridgwater pantomime has been a cherished tradition in the town for years, eagerly awaited by families each January. It has served as a springboard for many young people, igniting their love for theatre and providing them with their first taste of the stage. Some have even gone on to pursue careers in acting.
