The bull shark, measuring around seven feet in length and weighing approximately 130 kg, was later identified by wildlife experts. Pawan Sharma, the founder and president of non-profit RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare) and honorary wildlife warden with the state forest department, confirmed the species.
The Mangrove Cell, responsible for the marine and aquatic wildlife preservation in the forest department, has initiated an investigation into the incident. Bull sharks are typically found in the sea, but there have been reports of them being discovered in creeks, rivers, and dams several kilometers away from saltwater. Factors such as reduced prey base due to overfishing, bycatch, habitat degradation, and loss contribute to their presence in these freshwater environments.
