A tragic series of fires in Shasta County has resulted in one fatality and left two individuals injured within the past five days, according to fire officials.
On Saturday, a house fire occurred in the historic community of Shasta, located west of Redding, claiming the life of a 76-year-old man identified as William Glen Forney of Shasta, as confirmed by the coroner’s office on Wednesday.
Additionally, two separate incidents involving travel trailer fires have resulted in injuries this week, as reported by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Redding Fire Department.
Emergency crews promptly responded to a reported house fire on the 15000 block of Highway 299 in Shasta at 9:30 a.m. last Saturday. Tragically, the resident, later identified as Forney, was found deceased inside the burning building, as mentioned in a news release.
Following the incident, a Cal Fire law enforcement officer requested assistance from the Shasta County Arson Task Force to investigate the cause of the fire, according to the arson task force.
Preliminary findings from ongoing investigations suggest that the house fire was likely accidental, as stated in a news release by officials.
In a separate incident, another individual residing in a travel trailer sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to the hospital on Tuesday as a result of a fire that broke out on Tailings Drive in French Gulch.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency crews encountered a fully engulfed travel trailer. They managed to bring the blaze under control within an hour, according to Jas Shaw, a spokesperson for Cal Fire. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation.
Furthermore, another individual sustained injuries in a travel trailer fire that occurred around 6 a.m. on Wednesday in the 17000 block of Peterson Lane, situated off Lake Boulevard in north Redding, as reported by the Redding Fire Department.
Fire Prevention Officer Ron Krznarich stated that a malfunctioning propane heater caused this fire. The sole occupant of the trailer suffered moderate burns during the incident.
Considering the frequency of fire-related incidents at the property on Peterson Lane in recent years, Krznarich revealed that fire officials intend to refer the matter to Shasta County officials for a thorough investigation into potential code violations on the premises.
